ME 312 Mechanical Engineering Design

Description :

Introduction to Rolling Contact Bearings, the Lubrication Theory, Journal Bearings,
Gears and their methods of design.

Course Objectives :

This course is intended to give the juniors a systematic approach to the science of machine design. The students are required to acquire the fundamentals of  mechanical elements  and  an independent design initiative. 

Prerequisites :

ME 311 is recommended..

Textbook :

J. E. Shigley,  C. R. Mischke,  “Mechanical Engineering Design”, 5th Edition, McGraw-Hill International Editions. 6th Edition has also been published with visual improvements. Either works well.

3) Lubrication Theory (1 wk).
4) Journal Bearings (2 wks).
5) Gearing (2 wks)
6) Spur and Helical Gears (2.5 wks).
7) Bevel and Worm Gears (2.5 wks).


Homeworks :


Homeworks on a weekly basis, and a term project will be given.
