About Department

The Department of Food Engineering at Izmir Institute of Technology was founded in 1996 with the aim of developing knowledge and skills required urgently in the areas developing very fast in food industry. The Department offers Master of Science degree in food engineering.  

The main research areas of the department concentrate around microbiological and chemical safety, defining and improving HACCP programms for different food sectors, biologically active food packaging, development and improvement of food processing techniques, plant growth in tissue cultures, biomaterials, kinetic modelling of bacterial behaviour, production and purification of value added bio-products.
